What the Character AI age check looks at
Its age assurance FAQ describes the check in two stages. First, without asking you for anything, it reads a number of signals, including login info, activity on the platform and some signals from third parties. If those point to 18 or over, nothing else happens.
If they point to under 18, you are told, and you choose: use the under-18 experience, or verify your age to get back to the 18+ one. Verifying starts with a selfie, checked by a third-party provider. Only if that check is unsure are you asked to upload an ID. The FAQ says the ID goes to the provider, not to Character.AI, that the provider keeps IDs it collects for one week, and that biometric information is deleted within seven days.

If the check reads an adult as under 18
The help center gives one route for an adult the check misreads: verify your age from Settings. On the web, that is character.ai, then Settings, Advanced, Verify Age; in the mobile app, the same path under Settings. If you are verified and think you are in the wrong experience, the FAQ says to submit a ticket through its help center so it can review your age bracket.
Two things it says do not change the result: a paid subscription does not override age assurance, and the age on a linked Google account does not either. If you are under 18, the under-18 experience is the one meant for you, and this page has nothing to help you around it.
Why the check exists
A help center announcement said open-ended chat for under-18 users would end, rolling out from November 24, 2025, and that new age assurance would help make sure each person gets the experience for their age. Its community guidelines, read on the same date as the rest of this page, still describe users under 18 interacting with an age-appropriate model, so read both pages for how the two fit together today. The terms of service set a minimum age of 13, or 16 in the European Economic Area and the UK.

How oeYYeo handles age
oeYYeo is for adults 18 and over, with no under-18 experience at all. Before the first message we ask one question, are you 18 or over, and anyone who taps under 18 cannot chat; that answer always wins. We do not ask for a selfie or an ID, and we never market to anyone under 18.
Romance between adults is welcome, and a character can be your partner. Explicit sex is declined, in character, for everyone. Every character is AI, and the app says so under the box where you type.
